24th_infantry Posted September 7, 2015 #1 Posted September 7, 2015 I'm not a WWI collector, my focus is pretty much WW2 however I couldn't pass on this item. It had too much history to let it get lost to the ages. It came from the daughter of the veteran. I do not have the name just yet but I will be getting it tomorrow. The grouping is of a WWI veteran who served in the medical corps. However, his job was not helping the doctors or nurses but rather seeing to the horses and wagons. On the sleeve is the wagoner's patch. I stumbled across his discharge chevron in the pocket, along with a photo of the man from the 1940s I imagine. Also, I found a strange pouch which he sewed the string onto and the button. I am not sure what this pouch was used for, possibly dog tags or personal effects. I also got the pants with the belt. The belt has the Quarter Master Depot marked on the brass with US. The grouping also came with the garrison cap. Inside the jacket the soldier wrote his initials but I cannot tell you what the name is just yet, however I will when I find out. Feel free to ask questions or for more photos.
24th_infantry Posted September 7, 2015 Author #4 Posted September 7, 2015 This is an interesting thing I found. On this legging he sewed a piece of fabric and placed writing paper in it. I guess this way he always had paper and could write home.
