West Point MP insignia

Recommended Posts

Now who would want to pick a fight with this member of the West Point Academy Military Police? Not me. I think the attitude oozing from this character's stance and facial expression screams "Tow the line and obey the rules, or else!"

Disney artist Hank Porter created this art, based on one of the donkeys from Pinocchio, in the winter of 1944. Art courtesy the collection of my friend Sam Grabarski.

Hello Bob.

Yes, I agree, great design, tons of personality in that illustration.

At this time, I have never seen this particular design used on anything.

Wanted: Disney World War II related items.

Thanks for the follow-up Dave.

While we're on the subject; can you tell me if the attached design can be attributed to Disney Studio's?

It has a Disney-ish look to it but this emblem was never approved by the Heraldic Section during WWII.

If this was a Disney creation I would like to assign the appropriate copyright information along with the image.

Thanks for any information you may have on this topic.

I got this on eBay over a year ago. The seller had listed four Disney patches.

They were all painted on leather and measured six inches in diameter. The

other three were Army Air Corps squadron patches. There are several things

I like about this patch. First, original art work has a small blue star in the lower

left hand corner, but the star on the patch is enlarged to fit the entire patch. I

have seen some other original Disney art work with patches and they have the

same enlarged star. I also like the "USMA" lettering. It's mechanically done. I

don't think that would be difficult for someone who was faking patches. It also

has a nice light brown patina on the reverse. I welcome comments.
