THAT GUY Posted August 29, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2015 Hey all! I began my journey back into the U.S. collecting realm with some very nice unissued M1938 wire cutter pouches from Pineviewsurplus on ebay. I got these for a very good, fair price and saw a chance to gather up several of the same items to have a study on fabric/ color changes throughout the war. There are still a few manufacturers I have not picked up, and for some reason I cannot find a 1941/ 1943 dated pouch. (If anyone knows a source let me know!) Also, if you have any other variations feel free to post. I love seeing all the variations. Sam
David D Posted August 29, 2015 Share #2 Posted August 29, 2015 Nice collection. I believe at one point on militaryantiquesmuseum.com there was a 41 dated pouch, not sure if it's still there or not
THAT GUY Posted August 29, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted August 29, 2015 They still do, but geez, at $44 that's an awful lot!
David D Posted August 29, 2015 Share #4 Posted August 29, 2015 Yeah, it is quite expensive though
oldabewla Posted September 1, 2015 Share #5 Posted September 1, 2015 The 1941 dated one for $44 is cheap, the British made ones for the (US) sell for several hundred dollars.
THAT GUY Posted September 2, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted September 2, 2015 Is that so? I learn something everyday!! I didn't know any of these could command prices like that.
oldabewla Posted September 2, 2015 Share #7 Posted September 2, 2015 Here are the two of the British made versions that were for sale on the web a wile back I found.
Keystone Posted September 18, 2015 Share #8 Posted September 18, 2015 I had to dig into my collection but here is a 1951 and a 1967 dated set of pouches. With all the unissued WW2 contract pouches it is amazing the government contracted for even more of these. Tim
'Flage Guy Posted September 19, 2015 Share #9 Posted September 19, 2015 Mighty delectable set of Pouches, gentlemen! Just made an order for the '41-dated Pouch; they are not cheap, but they are likewise not common by any means!! Now my poor ol' '41 Cutters will finally have a mate...don't know about finding '40-dated Cutters for the Pouch, though...
oldabewla Posted September 19, 2015 Share #10 Posted September 19, 2015 Flage Guy that's a very nice early 1940 cutters pouch don't see them every day! I'm glad some one picked up the 1941 dated pouch they aren't easy to find ether will make a great set. I've never seen a 1938 or 1939 wire cutters pouch or cutters wondering if they made them? I would think there might be a 39 dated ones out there because the model year 1938 was adopted and production started the next year or all depends on what part of the year it was adopted? Would be interesting to find out? Thanks for sharing.
'Flage Guy Posted September 19, 2015 Share #11 Posted September 19, 2015 Craig, that's an excellent question. I've never seen any late '30s Cutters, and the earliest W.W.II Pouch I've come across is 1940. I'll bet there's somebody on this Forum who has that data Like you said, it'd be interesting to find out. Could save a whole lot of hunting! 3IDGarand Posted September 21, 2015 Share #17 Posted September 21, 2015 Cool. I just ordered a wire cutter pouch for my wire cutter. Unfortunately, you can't read the date or manufacturer, so I'll compare mine with some of the ones you posted. $10 wasn't too big of a gamble for me. Military Engineer Posted April 22, 2017 Share #18 Posted April 22, 2017 After considerable research, I found a specification drawing for a Carrier, Wire Cutter, M1929 Spec, # 6-168 (drawing # 2-2-10) after comparing this drawing with the drawing for the M1938, Spec MIL-C-729 (drawing # 2-2-38) there are two differences.
