Salvage Sailor Posted August 27, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 27, 2015 Aloha Everyone, While trolling through my piles of junk yesterday with a visiting USMF member I uncovered this stash of Hawaiian Division Horse Show programs which were annual events at Schofield Barracks between the wars. These shows were intra-Division athletic competitions which were also open to equestrian family members in some categories of competition.
Salvage Sailor Posted August 27, 2015 Author Share #2 Posted August 27, 2015 I have more of these somewhere with a pile of 'smoker' (boxing matches), basketball and baseball items These books are always filled with details about the history of the Division and the competing units 1931 ...and of course, soldiers artwork
Salvage Sailor Posted August 27, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted August 27, 2015 1932 Program Art Deco style was the rage in the early 1930's Hawaiian Division Special Troops (HQ) and the 35th Infantry One often sees photos of HD troops on furlough to the Big Island (Hawaii) touring the Volcanos and Hilo. How did they get there? The Army's Navy - U.S.A.T. General Royal T. Frank
Salvage Sailor Posted August 27, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted August 27, 2015 On to 1934 (I'll post samples of other years when I come across them) 1934 Artillery in the competition Steeplechase course and an interesting category - Mascots - by type, size, and just darn good looking. Mules vs. Wolfhounds, Bulldogs vs. Terriers, and who entered the rats and mice? ....and lest we forget, the mechanized AA Coast Artillery horning in with their steeds

Grant S. Posted August 28, 2015 Share #6 Posted August 28, 2015 Very neat. The Royal T. Frank is a beautiful ship. Reminds me of the Medea at the San Diego Maritime Museum. I also love the font on the 1934 title page. Don't see that used much anymore!
