James L. Quong 179th Infantry 45th Division around 1938, joins up around 1936 when 16 , he makes a career out of the Army, WWII units unknown, makes Officer, but is RIFed post was. As a Master Sergeant in 1950, Quong is in Japan, goes over to Korea with D Company 32nd Infantry 7th Infantry Division, posted MIA Chosin Reservoir, we gather he was listed in the Courts of the Missing at the Punchbowl, he's found June 18  2020, as of this date no cemetery is mentioned where he will be rested. Of interest, his mother and father divorced apparently and she remarried when he was a kid, remarried to a Chinese-American man, we guess he adopted James, and took his surname Quong.

A Major Fred During, around 1939 at Fort Leavenworth Kansas wearing the Unit Crest for the Command and General Staff School. The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the Command and General Staff School on 16 Jun 1938.

This and his listing of DSC holders for WWI is all I could find on him, his O listing as of 1 January 1935, which is quite odd seeing he was awarded a Distinguished Service Cross and a Wound Stripe in WWI upgraded now to the Purple Heart

Richard E. Mittelstaedt 1940 AG CANG, he's wearing one of those California NGHQ DIs, can't find a image of it.

250thcacampmcquaide1941dx.jpg

PMed tredhead on this and he tentatively Ided it as the California NG's 79th Infantry Brigade 40th Division, tentatively because Mittelstaedt has as his command position being the Adjutant General of California and not in the 40th Division, so we thought the CANG HQ had a DI of it's own apart from the 40th Divisional HQ ones. Turns out the ID is spot on cause this photo of him was taken when he indeed was the commander of the 79th Infantry Brigade, they just used his older photo for this write up.

His Service Chronology, from a discovered page on him, note the 79th Infantry Brigade period of command, note too he was thee very first commander of the newly activated 49th Infantry Division post war.

Captain (then 1st Lt) William A Gardner pictured in the 13th Infantry Regiment yearbook for 1942 while the 8th Division was at Fort Jackson.  At the time he was in Company E, but would go on to command Company B when the unit went overseas.  He was significantly wounded on July 13, the same day the regiment saw its first action of the war and returned stateside for medical treatment.  He was medically retired as a Major in 1947.
