Found this Zippo buckle while out picking in the Pensacola area yesterday. Thought it was cool as it was still mint in the box. USS PRESERVER, ARS-8

Salvage Sailor may like this and maybe provide some info.

In January 1947, Eighth Fleet was renamed Second Task Fleet. Three years later, in February 1950, the command was re-designated Second Fleet, with the primary mission of supporting the newly formed North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the forward deployed U.S. 6th Fleet.

Cobra 6 Actual

Oops, had a “brain freeze” yesterday and accidentally posted the same buckle as the day before. Here’s a new photo of a different buckle:

Nice PI Buckle, Iranian Crisis, 1980.  These are some of the Ace Novelty 1980 Cruise Patches

Many 1960’s -1970’s veterans, especially Vietnam vets, are familiar with the acronym “FTA” (for F__K The Army):

And many such vets are also familiar with the cartoonish character, Dopin’ Dan. However, he was actually also featured in a 1972 comic book series:

Here are a couple of Anson Mills belt plates. The Mass one I am 100% confident in, having gotten it 50 or so years ago with a grouping from one soldier. The NY I am not confident in, I think it’s a repro but not sure. The NY one I picked up at a gun show 35-40 years ago. Any thoughts? I don’t know why there would be so many repro of these.
