B-3\D-1 Repair

Recommended Posts

I have a B3 and D1 jacket each of which have some blowouts. I'm hesitant to take them anywhere for repair because I'm afraid they won't be handled properly, causing more damage. I also have a shot pair of A3 pants that I can use the leather/shearling from. I was thinking of cutting a piece and using it as backing, then sewing the tears closed. Good idea...bad? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I believe Eastman does repairs but it can be expensive.

One thing with shearling is once its dried outits hard to do much with it.

I have seen period epairs done with thin brown leather over laid and sewn on tears or holes.Sewing something this old may just increase or weaken the damages area

Thanks Doyler, I'll look into Eastman. My goal is to prevent the tears from widening so I hoped that securing leather to the front/back would strengthen the area. I'll have to reexamine and see if it is dryness causing the break or just improper storage from before I received them.
