WWI Army pistol belt

Hi all -

I have a 1917 m1911 in a 1914 dated Rock Island Arsenal holster. The holster has a leg tie-down strap with buckle and a pivot point above the flap. It attaches to the belt with the standard wire hanger. The officer who carried it was an engineer captain. Would he have worn a web belt or a leather Sam Browne belt with his field uniform? I would like to display it, but need to know what type of rig to get. This is a little out of my comfort zone, as I mainly collect WWII Marine. Thanks. I look forward to learning something new - Chris

Marchville1918

I would think the more likely for a Capt in field service from 1917 or later would be a web belt. I think the Sam Browne would have more likely been worn with his dress uniform. I am sure examples can be found otherwise but I think the web would have been more common in the field.
