BEAST Posted August 22, 2015 #1 Posted August 22, 2015 Many years ago, one of the guys I used to reenact with sold this pack to a local militaria shop. Fortunately I knew the shop owner and was able to buy this and a couple of other items. The guy who sold it had served in Vietnam with the 101st Abn. I asked him about it and he said that it came out of a NVA cache. In my notes, he told me the regiment that he thinks they were fighting against at the time. I will post the NVA unit information when I pull my notes out. The pack is in excellent condition and seems to have more compartments than I would expect with a "normal" pack. Maybe this was also for carrying a radio or other specialized gear? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
BEAST Posted August 22, 2015 Author #3 Posted August 22, 2015 Never ever seen one quite like this one. Me either. Maybe based off of a Chinese or Soviet design? I'll have to go through some of my old Soviet references and see if there is something similar.
BEAST Posted August 22, 2015 Author #4 Posted August 22, 2015 Looking through my notes, he said that he thought they were fighting against the 821st NVA Regiment. The pack was captured while fighting in the A Shau Valley.
BEAST Posted August 22, 2015 Author #5 Posted August 22, 2015 The other couple of items that he sold were these Chieu Hoi passes.
