Found this awesome little award from Admiral Rickover to LCDR Crispin. Apparently the Admiral presented these plaques to all the early Nuclear Sub Commanding Officers. LCDR Crispin was the engineering officer onboard the USS Nautilus. CDR Crispin eventually became the CO of the USS Seawolf, USS Scamp, USS Nathaniel Greene, and finally the USS Raleigh.

The words on the plaque come from the opening line in the Breton fisherman poem. This same plaque was also given to President John F. Kennedy and President Jimmy Carter. Both Presidents kept their plaques in the Oval Office.

This is a picture of JFK's personal plaque that was personally given to him by Admiral Rickover. This picture is from the JFK library/museum. If you look closely, the two plaques are identical and appear to come from the same casting. I thought this was really cool.

So very true!!

Any true sailor knows how mighty the seas can be, and how minuscule man really is.
