strawberry 9 Posted August 5, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 5, 2015 I picked this up today locally. It is a large, hand made metal and wood model of the USS Daniel A. Joy 585. Its 4 feet long! Even greater is that the top comes off to reveal that it is battery powered and actually meant to go in the water. It has some condition issues and needs a cleaning but I couldn't buy it fast enough. Interestingly enough, as much care and detail that went into it, the maker got the numbers wrong using 584 rather than 585. I've researched the actual ship a little so far and found that it was stationed in the Great Lakes for some time and would have been in the Chicago area which is were I live and purchased it. Lots of pictures coming up.

strawberry 9 Posted August 5, 2015 Author Share #11 Posted August 5, 2015 That's it for now, going to clean it up a bit. The Daniel A. Joy was launched in 1944 and provided escort duty to Europe before heading to the PTO where it participated in escort and patrol duties.
