dag Posted August 3, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 3, 2015 Having trouble finding information on who would wear these and what is the history behind them. And exactly what they did. I know where they were worn as far as where on the uniform, but also don't know where these would have been worn, i.e. if these were theater dependent. Any history on these would be appreciated. Or a link, I have tried searching both on this forum and in the internet without much success.
Justin B. Posted August 3, 2015 Share #2 Posted August 3, 2015 It was all according to MOS. There is an informative page that shows the codes and which ones were authorized to wear the specialists patches here: http://militaryyearbookproject.com/aaf-mos-codes-wwii-era Justin B. Just what I was looking for - thanks! Do you know the timeframe when these were used, when they were first worn, and when they were discontinued? Justin B. Posted August 3, 2015 Share #7 Posted August 3, 2015 In the 1943 National Geographic they are illustrated in black and white as "last minute" additions and the text says "Approved January 25, 1943." In the 1944 edition it says "Adopted January 25, 1943, and reapproved March 6, 1943." Justin B.

Brian Keith Posted August 7, 2015 Share #10 Posted August 7, 2015 These came into use early in the war and were eliminated when the AAF separated and became the USAF. My father served in the USAF 1950-52, aircraft engine mechanic. Some of his khaki shirts had the Engineering Specialists insignia on them on the lower right sleeve. So some were worn post-WWII, may not have been according to regs. His "Ike" style jacket and four pocket coat did not have this insignia. His M-43 field jacket had a felt AAF SSI on it. patches Posted August 24, 2015 Share #13 Posted August 24, 2015 Wow 1 May 1944! I was unaware these cuff patches only came out towards the middle of 1944, always thought they came out sometime in late 1942 or somewheres.
