patches Posted August 1, 2015 #8 Posted August 1, 2015 he man I bought this from said he thought it was to an Armor School: Some kind of commemorative piece?
patches Posted August 1, 2015 #9 Posted August 1, 2015 Cloth DUI, can't make out works: As stated by PATCHRAT, 72nd Armor Regt, or to be more precise to when this loop would of been worn, the 72nd Tank Battalion. This unit was a part of the 2nd Inf Div during the war, Korean War that is, but as this DI was approved only in July 1952 it would date late in the war or shortly after really like some time in 1953 I should think, as this is when the fashion of directly embroidered DIs on Green loops really took off. The 2nd Div remained in garrison in South Korea till October 1954, so we can guess it was worn then. We would think these were still worn or could of been worn in the 72nd Tk Bn by those that might of had them even after the 2nd Div left Korea for Ft Lewis.

atb Posted August 1, 2015 #13 Posted August 1, 2015 I purchased the example of that Armor beret badge I have from the Armor School book store at Ft. Knox in about 1979 while attending a course.
otter42 Posted August 3, 2015 Author #15 Posted August 3, 2015 He is 73 now, but not sure of the years , I am going to sit down and talk with him in detail and get some pics of him so I can put the patches he wore together along with his history. He's a great guy, spent most of his time in 1st Armor.
