holtz Posted July 18, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 18, 2015 Hello need help identifying these military pieces. one marked "Crew's Mess Aft." looks like a key? The other piece has "U.S. 1917 e" marked on it. Possibly a gun part?
McDermut99 Posted July 18, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 18, 2015 I'm guessing the "Crew's Mess Aft" would be a identification tab that keys would be attached to.
Rolf Posted July 19, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 19, 2015 Your second item is the M1917 Magazine Follower Depressor. It is used on the M1917 rifle to allow troops to complete the "Inspection Arms" maneuver in the Manual of Arms. Soldiers who did not have this devise would have to use a dime inserted in the follower to allow them to close the bolt without depressing the follower. The M1917 did not have a magazine cutoff like the M1903. This is a somewhat rare devise and was made by all three manufacturers, Eddystone, Remington and Winchester. The "E" stamped on yours indicates it was manufactured by Eddystone.
