The motto has it listed as 200th Coast Artillery, 717th AAA Bn, 200th Arty Regt, 200th ADA Bn, 200th Inf. Regt.

The symbolism is the same but the design of the DI is very different. "No hallmarks"post-5782-0-94555600-1437143214.jpg So what do I have?

This is the one for the 200th Inf. Regt.

It could possibly be an old design or a theater made variation of the 200th inf reg.

From the US Army Institute of Heraldry website:

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 111th Cavalry Regiment on 19 June 1926. It was redesignated for the 200th Coast Artillery Regiment (AA) on 7 March 1941. It was redesignated for the 717th Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion on 6 October 1952. The insignia was redesignated for the 200th Artillery Regiment on 7 June 1960. It was redesignated for the 200th Air Defense Artillery Regiment on 9 February 1973. It was redesignated for the 200th Infantry Regiment with the description and symbolism updated on 22 August 2006.

Yours is a variation of the design and it depends on the age of the DUI to determine the exact iteration of the unit who wore it. Pin back, screw back of clutch back?

It's a clutch back. When looking up the different unit designations the only one that pops up is the second DI that was posted.

I have an old screw back of that design that I think is from the 111th Cavalry period.

The description for the 111th DI is the same as the one I have, but when did the clutch backs first come into use?

Thanks for the info. Just started collecting DIs this past year. Collected patches for 40. Need more books.

All three are correct depending on the time period. It is not unusual.
