A woman who'd stopped in some months ago came by today with a box of her fathers items....he enlisted in January 1941 and served in the 112th Engineers (37th Infantry Division). He was commissioned in 1942, and served with the 457th Fighter Group, which ended up on Iwo Jima after an airstrip was secured, where they flew support missions against the Japanese home islands. The uniforms will need some cleaning and a little restoration work, but overall are in good shape for having been in a garage all these years. She's going to look for his paperwork and some photos as well. Check the Spoils of War section to see the Japanese items he sent home!

Shirts, pants and jackets...

...several overseas caps and two visors...the winter weight has a crusher type soft visor.....a couple of sewing kits with contents and musset bags. The one on the left is dated 1942.

I know folks hesitate to show names but I have a bunch of 506th FG images that include the 457th. Entirely possible I have a photo of this guy in the pile I could post here. There is also a very good website on the 506th that might have info. Those VLR 51 fliers took on a really tough mission

The one good grouping I have is from an Iwo based 51 driver.

Thanks for sharing this with us :)
