ks coyote Posted July 13, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 13, 2015 Metal detecting a now closed WW2 AAF base and found this piece. It's deteriorated but can still make out the features. It's brass and about 1.5 by 1 inch. It doesn't hinge as a solid piece. Any help would be appreciated. It has a shield on one side and the AAF wings and Air corps emblem on the other. BROBS Posted July 13, 2015 Share #7 Posted July 13, 2015 The rim on the open edge is to hold in the matchbox.
jayhawkhenry Posted July 15, 2015 Share #8 Posted July 15, 2015 I think for matches the edge would be wider and 1x 1.5 is not very big. The size of the border seems to be fairly even. Interesting find.
BROBS Posted July 15, 2015 Share #9 Posted July 15, 2015 that's true I must have missed the measurement. although a matchbox is only 1.5" x 2" to me it looks about that size. some of these holders didn't have an edge at all. It could be a money clip but it just looks odd for one. -Brian
