Chris, I wish I had some WWI aviation-related advertisements to add to your excellent concept for a thread. My fingers are crossed others will contribute...

CANNOT be overstated, the historical value of this collection noting the companies involved, as well as the individual silversmiths adding their consummate skills to the field, in the manufacture of Military Aviation Insignia. WELL DONE GENTLEMEN, and any LADIES of our collecting community contributing as well.

Finally, here is a better scan of the Caldwell Advertisement for the Bombing Military Aviator Wing:

Any other WWI era U.S. Air Service related advertisements out there? Please feel free to post them here...

(There's a wealth of research info in some of these old newspaper and magazine listings!)

Another apparent retailer of the "N.S, Meyer-type" wing. Brand-Chatillon was a 5th Avenue, New York retailer of high end luxury goods:

M.C. Lilley was a well-known manufacturer of military uniforms, insignia and society goods in Columbus, Ohio:

Interestingly, it appears as though this insignia is the same as the one in the illustration. Perhaps we can now identify this well-made, handsome insignia as having been made by M.C. Lilley:

The MC Lilley post above got me thinking. I went into my box of "singles" and pulled out what I think appears to be a pretty good match to the insignia in this advertisement from William C. Link, of Newark, New Jersey;

Something of a mystery, the Bailey Banks and Biddle of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania marked insignia below does not appear to be a match for the insignia in their advertisement:

Perhaps BB&B manufactured more than one style of Air Service insignia? Does anyone out there have an insignia that would be a better match?
