Mr.B Posted August 3, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 3, 2008 Hi Everyone, I recently picked up a ww2 marines jacket from a antique mall around my house and I looked at the ribbon bars on it and it had a Purple Heart with a gold star on it. I just have a question. Does that mean he got killed or was did he get a who bunch of wounds will serving? All opinions are greatly appreciated Thanks for your help Mr.B
GIl Sanow Posted August 3, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 3, 2008 The gold star indicates he was wounded a second time. The Army used oak leaf clusters (OLCs) instead. The Navy and Marines use the gold star for second awards of valor and commendation medals. Now, "Gold Star Mothers" are a different thing. You have probably seen the "Son in Service" banners with blue stars indicating that that household (organization, company, etc.) had that number in service. If one was KIA, a gold star replaced the blue. Gold Star Mothers are also an organization of mothers who lost sons in action. G
