MT247 Posted July 4, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2015 Hi all, just got this hat at an antique store and thought it was neat. It's got a nice Bullion patch and a 40/8 medal. Wanted to see what you all thought. Thanks
flyboy53 Posted July 4, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 4, 2015 Early 40/8 hat when the 40/8 was still the honor society of the Legion. Very cool!
MT247 Posted July 4, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted July 4, 2015 Are the Bullion patches very common? Thanks for the info
MT247 Posted July 6, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted July 6, 2015 Is there a market for these hats right now, who is collecting them? Thanks
KevinBeyer Posted July 6, 2015 Share #5 Posted July 6, 2015 I normally don't give valuations, but my experience with these caps says that people will pay around $10 for them in 2015 dollars. The ones adorned with pins, badges, and other insignia fetch a few dollars more.
MT247 Posted July 6, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted July 6, 2015 Thanks Kevin, just thought I might use it to trade in the future
Gldank Posted July 6, 2015 Share #7 Posted July 6, 2015 I collect and have a very large collection of American Legion items. Collecting National Convention items all the way back to 1919. The 40/8 medals go for about $2 - $7 (unless very old) without bars on the ribbons. The bullion patches in nice condition go for $5-$10 by themselves. Plain 40/8 hats go for $3-$5 (Embroidered, $5-$10). This hat, I would say $10 - $15. All of this from my experience only. James
MT247 Posted July 7, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted July 7, 2015 Thanks for the reply James, that's about what I have in it. Just thought I was a cool price of history.
