Steve Brannan Posted August 2, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 2, 2008 I almost overlooked this small wine bottle in a local antique store. Noticed the etchings and the dice in the cork. Amazingly it has the guy's whole career 1939-1946 neatly etched into the glass of the wine bottle. Enlisted in 1939 and discharged in 1946, he served on the USS Texas during a pre-War Mediteranian cruise then the 1st Marine Divison and later the 5th Marine Division. Became a Master Sgt. Anyone know where this wine bottle came from or has anyone seen this type of work. Someone had a lot of time on his hands. I sorry that it does not photograph well because my camera doesn't know where to focus. Yes the dice do work. MASTER SERGEANT MERLE M. CARR, UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS. teufelhunde.ret Posted August 2, 2008 Share #6 Posted August 2, 2008 Quite a unique novelity - much like the trench art shell casing of ww1 and complete with his service number. My guess would be the bottle's origins are from his cruise in the Med...?
