Niki Posted June 25, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 25, 2015 This my P-1b flight helmet i have bought 2 years ago in a belgium militaria fair at Ciney 2013. It is well used, looking at the scars and dents on the helmet but i like the real stuff thats been used in the aircraft and not on a shelf in surplus. i have one question i see a dark blue B-8 flight googles on this helmet and not the ussual black version? is this right? i'm very glad i found this helmet beqause in belgium it is hard to find this kind of korean war era items. looking at it and if this helmet could talk oh my.... Milkshake Posted June 25, 2015 Share #2 Posted June 25, 2015 That helmet looks awesome, it looks like one of those mannequins in horror movies.
Bluespicker Posted June 26, 2015 Share #3 Posted June 26, 2015 Not sure what you mean about the goggles? The helmet looks very nice but the edge roll appears to have been replaced. The thing with P Series helmets is that everyone used them and they often modified the helmets for their purposes. What does the liner look like in this helmet? Niki Posted June 27, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted June 27, 2015 hi bluespicker, If i compare the goggles next to another one it is this dark blue like the pictures . Maybe it is faded through the years from black to dark blue? Also the pictures inside the helmet below.
northcoastaero Posted June 29, 2015 Share #5 Posted June 29, 2015 The helmet may be the earlier P-1A with a modified leather edge roll. The P-1B had indentations on the sides for mounting a visor assy. The P-1 and P-1A did not have these indentations. Also, the MS-22001 mask appears to be post Korean War with the red bottom MC-3A connector instead of the earlier green bottom MC-3. The PJ-292 plug at the end of the microphone cable is later than the earlier PL-291. All correct upgrades, just mid 1950s era in my opinion. Nice helmet/mask set! doyler Posted June 29, 2015 Share #6 Posted June 29, 2015 I have a set of goggles used in the late 50s or early 60s by the navy. They are new in the box and have adark blue lense, and are lined and like the old B8 series goggles. The box states they are for use in instrument training.Maybe something to simulate low light etc.
