ocsfollowme Posted June 23, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 23, 2015 This green patch reminded me of the S-2 patch from the 101st Airborne during WW2 that is worth $2500-3500. Does anyone have an ID on what it was? What time frame? http://www.ebay.com/itm/301662627676?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Thanks, Steve

ocsfollowme Posted June 23, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted June 23, 2015 I find it interesting that this patch came in three colors. I understand the traditional golden Aussie backing. Do you think that it represents different units within the 29th recon? Or simply a patch variation.
Johnny Signor Posted June 24, 2015 Share #7 Posted June 24, 2015 Yes ,There's a site online about the Group and it has a small image showing each of the "Bird" emblems with various color background discs to signify each of the Squadrons in the Group . ocsfollowme Posted June 24, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted June 24, 2015 Eureka!! I figured with three colors it must be something like this. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Johnny!

pararaftanr2 Posted June 24, 2015 Share #12 Posted June 24, 2015 Notice how the bird's right wing differs between the patch and the artwork? Do you guys happen to know which of the two versions is "correct"? Just curious.
ocsfollowme Posted June 24, 2015 Author Share #13 Posted June 24, 2015 they could be both correct. at least the patches are the same. could have been the artists depiction but then the patch maker did something different. It would be nice to see some nose art on the plane.
Johnny Signor Posted June 25, 2015 Share #14 Posted June 25, 2015 Sometimes they ran out of patches for new unit members and had more made, the places weren't always the same , so this sometimes caused "variations" in the designs , you see this with a lot of the units if you really look into them...... Actually if you look close , both wings are different then the squadron images , one artist did the image I posted and someone else obviously did the patches , probably totally different times and places too . pararaftanr2 Posted June 25, 2015 Share #15 Posted June 25, 2015 I checked out the site Johnny mentioned (http://6thprg.yolasite.com/) and found an image showing the insignia on the tail of a 20th PMS F-7B.
pararaftanr2 Posted June 25, 2015 Share #16 Posted June 25, 2015 From other images on the site, it looks like both variations were in use, as seen here in the 25th PRS and 36th PRS.
