Milkshake Posted June 19, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 19, 2015 I have a WWII M1 Helmet that smells like smoke and dust, I don't know any ways to clean the helmet without damaging the helmet. I've heard that it's a bad idea to use any type oil on the leather but is it a good idea to use some sort of air-freshener like Glade of Febreeze on it without damaging the liner? Thanks in advance! Cap Camouflage Pattern I Posted June 19, 2015 Share #3 Posted June 19, 2015 Don't use oil on any of it, including the shell. Try putting it outside to air out, and try mothballs.
Milkshake Posted June 19, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted June 19, 2015 well im just a bit curious, why remove the smoke smell? The smoke smell starts is starting to irritate and distract me, I've had the helmet for a week now, and I'd keep the smoke smell if it wasn't much noticeable or strong. USdog Posted June 19, 2015 Share #6 Posted June 19, 2015 Leaving an item outside for a few days takes the smoke smell out of my items.
