M5A1 paracrate

Pulled into the flea market parking lot this morning and this big boy was standing next to one of the sellers car. I couldn't believe my eyes. It's a late WW2 M5A2 Paracrate that was used with the 75mm pack howitzer. It would hold the barrel of the piece for a parachute drop. There would be several more of these containers holding other parts of the howitzer; the M3A2, M4A2 and M6A1. I already have the M9A2 Paracaisson so it's a nice companion piece.

And here they are side by side. Also shown are the correct crash pads. The darker OD one is Korean War as that's when they added the M13, M14, M15 and M16 aluminum paracrates to the Army's inventory.
