If you are in Germany, around Mannheim, Kaiserslautern, Ramstein area, you can also visit the bunker by public transportation. Just take the train to the border station of WISSEMBOURG (F). On sundays and holidays there is a bus transfer from WISSEMBOURG station right to the BUNKER. Its Bus #317. Its a 20 minute bus ride from WISSEMBOURG station.

ABOUT :

Four-a-Chaux is former Maginot Line Artillery-Fort in the Vosges/Alsace region in France. In 1944/45 the U.S. 7th Army was fighting in the area against the german Army Group G (Heeresgruppe G). In early 1945 the U.S. 36th ID took possesion of the Maginot Line bunkers, after the germans retreated.

Nowadays the bunker is a museum.

With a closer look, comparing both images, you can still see this small metal ring in the concrete. Right side of the soldiers leg, left side of my shoulder. It was used for fixing camo net.

I visited the bunker last sunday and joined the guided tour. Price is 7€, tour duration is about 2 hours. I uploaded some videos on my youtube channel. FIRST video is from the "casernement" inside the bunker, where they had kitchen, hospital, storage and bedrooms for the troops and stuff, SECOND video is from one of the artillery blocks of the bunker, BLOC 2. It shows the staircase leading up to the block and also the block itself. THIRD video shows the engine room, where they also set up an expose of original period items, weapons, uniforms, insignia and similar stuff, probably the most interisting part for you, there is french, german and also lots of american stuff.

Cool stuff, thanks for posting. I've been in that area several times but not there specifically.

My grandfather was with the 36th.
