Backtheattack Posted May 30, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 30, 2015 Think this is the right place. During the time of the "Iron Curtain" and the Cold War the US Army placed dummy tanks near the borderline. Knew them from the time of my youth. Found last week one of them in a garden near the former german-german border near Hof. Think it should look like an M-24 tank. Barrel is not original. The Meatcan Posted May 31, 2015 Share #2 Posted May 31, 2015 How cool! Are there many of these dummies still around or is this example a rare sight? What is it constructed of? Thanks for sharing! Terry
Backtheattack Posted May 31, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted May 31, 2015 During the time after 1989/1990 there where many of them here in our area, most near highways where they could be seen. East Germany want to know how strong is the "enemy" on the other side of the wall. So this dummy tanks stand often near observation points used by the US forces. Today only a few survived. They are build of glas fiber, and some metal support, so it could be handled by two soldiers. They stand always in a way you couldn`t see the missing tracks and wheels, looks from 200 metres as the tank was dig in.
