Well this is the fun and interesting part of collecting, and arrives in the form of Lt Col Roland W Estey. A WWI Officier who was awarded a Silver Star and a Purple Heart for wounds and OLC for Especially Meritorious Service. Not a bad War record...butt you notice a second cluster on his Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. We shall get to that...

Estey is billeted in England as a OSS Officer and was wounded by a Buzz Bomb. While there,he was awarded a Bronze Star for his services.All that is known and cannot not be disputed as demostrated by the paperwork.Butt...there is a a BACK story.

Here is a copy of the document providing the second OLC to the Purple Heart for being injured by Buzz Bomb in England.Butt...wait...here is the BackStory on the next post...

Interesting story. Just goes to show that not every purple heart was a wound from a front-line battle.

Thats a great story..Im sure he told his grand kids a different version...lol

 

I guess he really got caught with his azz hanging out...!

 

Or you could say he was supporting the local economy in a war zone. :D

Being in England, maybe he told them that he was wounded in a "rear area"
