Did anyone watch the program entitled, "The Day the 60's Died" on PBS a couple of weeks ago about Kent State and the Cambodian Incursion of 1970? I had a small part as a consultant/contributor and was quite pleased with the balanced and scholarly approach that the producers put together for the show, utilizing both the soldiers and students point's of view without any known bias.

Both of the combat veterans interviewed for the program were from B/5-12, 199th Infantry Brigade, and saw considerable combat while there and their views on Kent State represent the majority of Cambodian Incursion veterans, at least those from the 199th that we know.

The only part that I think should have been added in the narrative at some point was that the NVA were, in many respects, thrown off-balance for a time from all the weapons, munitions, and equipment that were captured and destroyed while in Cambodia, thus allowing the unhindered withdrawal of major US combat units prior to the Easter Offensive of 1972.

It was ironic that the recent riots in Baltimore were in full-swing when this aired...
