FSBE Posted May 6, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 6, 2015 Here's a cool pack setup I bought a while ago. Upper pack looks like it's an earlier depot rolltop and the lower has no Boyt markings but looks to be a Boyt pack. Both the lower and upper are marked "112" for an HQ unit in the 4th Marine Division. Also marked "373" on the lower a couple times. John

FSBE Posted May 9, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted May 9, 2015 https://justsomemarkers.wordpress.com/2011/07/26/hello-world/ What does magic marker have to do with this? John
ccyooper Posted May 10, 2015 Share #7 Posted May 10, 2015 Maybe he thinks some of the markings were done with a magic marker? Just a guess, don't know.
strawberry 9 Posted May 10, 2015 Share #8 Posted May 10, 2015 Kind of a rude way of saying it if so. Nice packs. I'm trying to set up a USMC set myself right now.
NPerry Posted May 12, 2015 Share #9 Posted May 12, 2015 The first half of the 20th century equivalent of magic markers were the large Hi-C, tomato juice type cans with cut outs on top in which metal handled markers with felt tips were stored. The ink supply was in the can. They were used in grocery stores, and I've seen army items that were similarly marked. They resemble a magic markers, but they could be earlier.
