senhoragua Posted August 1, 2009 #16 Posted August 1, 2009 In regard to this specific hallmark, do you know the time period? I've an example from the Public Health Service where it appears that the hallmark of the same sort is a punch and allegedly from the Second World War. Are incuse punches common with Gemsco at the time?

Tim B Posted December 20, 2013 #19 Posted December 20, 2013 WW2 Navy Chief Petty Officer Cap anchor, circa 1942 - '46. Gemsco New York & acid test.
Tim B Posted June 5, 2014 #22 Posted June 5, 2014 Here's a Coast Guard CPO cap anchor, circa 1947 - early 1950's, marked GEMSCO A.G.O. G-2.
Josh B. Posted August 5, 2014 #23 Posted August 5, 2014 Not sure if GEMSCO changed their name over the years, (but kept the same acronym). I've seen most internet posts and some books have the company listed as General Merchandising Company. If this is the case today, which I'm not sure of, I'm also convinced that this isn't what the company's acronym always stood for. Refer to the 1921 advertisement below clipped from "Our Navy". GEMSCO, with the wreath logo already in use, clearly means here " General Embroidery and Military Supply Company". New York address given.
BROBS Posted August 5, 2014 #25 Posted August 5, 2014 Thank you for showing that info! I always thought the wreath logo was later than that! -Brian
