Looper5920 Posted April 27, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2015 This pin was among the personal effects of a man that served with Marine Air Warning Squadron 6 (AWS-6) during the Battle of Okinawa. My first thought is that he may have traded for it with some of the other Army or Navy Air Defense units that were on the island during the battle b/c it does not look like a Marine Corps insignia. It reads "Semper Vigilans" on the front and is stamped "H.R. Newcome & Co NYC" on the back. Does anyone recognize the unit? Thanks, Mark
Steve B. Posted April 29, 2015 Share #2 Posted April 29, 2015 That's the distinctive unit insignia (DUI) for the 513th Coast Artillery.
Looper5920 Posted April 29, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted April 29, 2015 Thanks for that. Is there a reference that you can point me to where I could find it? Have not been able to dig anything up via the google-machine.

Steve B. Posted April 29, 2015 Share #5 Posted April 29, 2015 I looked it up in my ASMIC Mottos guide then cross-checked it with Capistrano's DUI books.
