Brig Posted April 25, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 25, 2015 Occasionally, I find an item or two scattered in the wares of coin dealers. This is the latest such piece to come from such a source. Raised Meyers shield, correct marking for WWII insignia but I'm not an airborne guy. Is this a WWII piece?
Rattle Posted April 25, 2015 Share #2 Posted April 25, 2015 No this one is a later piece as one can see if you compare the form of the shield with a WWII piece. This is a narrow shield. The WWII ones have a wider and rounder appearance
tredhed2 Posted April 25, 2015 Share #3 Posted April 25, 2015 According to the ASMIC Inf DI catalog, your type was not sample approved until 28 Dec 1951, to add to Rattle's post. Maker was NSM - yours.
Brig Posted April 25, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted April 25, 2015 Well, not a rare jewel but not a lump of coal, either. Must have been an earlier strike, the mark was replaced in the early 50's
