Pfc-Grunt Posted July 26, 2008 Share #5 Posted July 26, 2008 Hi Ken, I like this one. I turned it into a 1960's color polaroid picture. I hope you like it Ken, The photo`s look great especially with the vegetation. Now I have an observation not a criticism, the camo paint and fatigues blend in well. But you can see why the `black` guns were often covered in green gaffa tap to break up the outline of the weapon.
msgt norway Posted July 26, 2008 Author Share #6 Posted July 26, 2008 cool i like the polaroid look! i havent gotten into the use of the computer to fix pictures this was my first try. i know i should tryed to camo the gun but i dont have the od gaffa i just have black, maybe i should use burlap from camnetts? earlymb Posted August 7, 2008 Share #17 Posted August 7, 2008 On a side note: was face paint used by regular GI's (not LRRP or such) on 'normal' patrols? Greetz David
nguoi tien su Posted August 8, 2008 Share #18 Posted August 8, 2008 Hi Ken, Although it is a nice Vietnam look, I would say it is not right for a "typical" Marine Recon, even late war. And I agree with Bolo, a badly worn boonie will give a better look. Do you guys have photos of USMC stenciled ERDL shirts worn in VN? I think I just saw one. Cheers NTS

beezman Posted August 11, 2008 Share #22 Posted August 11, 2008 Here is the only pic ever of ERDL jackets worn in Vietnam with the EGA. The guys must have added the stencils themselves. By the way, this is a Combined Action Platoon. The hundred of other photos that I have show ERDL jackets without the EGA. The huge stocks of stencilled jackets now available on the market must have been modified by the Corps in the mid to late 70s.
nguoi tien su Posted August 12, 2008 Share #23 Posted August 12, 2008 Ken, as Beezman, I do think that the Marines used that kind of shirts after the VN war. The jacket is legit, made in 69 or 70 usually, but the stencil has been printed later. We also made the mistake when we started collecting those shirts, then we realised that they were not worn in Vietnam. After 19 years of collection, the photo above is the only one I have seen so far.
