Honoring a fallen Iwo Jima Marine

Recommended Posts

I was given the honor recently of preserving the remaining artifacts of a killed in action marine - Sgt Karl Debord - who served from 1940 until his death in March of 1945. He was originally from my home state of Kentucky and enlisted through Cincinnati, Ohio. He served on the USS Vincennes early in the war and was at Midway and Guadalcanal where he was wounded in August of 1942. He later served with the 9th marines - 3rd Marine Division and fought on Guam and Iwo Jima. He was Kiled March 2, 1945. Rest in Peace!

I am working on preparing a special display case for the material as well as frames for the major documents. The Bronze star is not engraved but like the Purple Heart which is, it was awarded Posthumously for action on Iwo Jima.

Incredible, sobering and very fitting tribute.

Wow. That's quite a piece of history there. Very cool that you get the privilege of preserving it. There are too much of these pieces that go unappreciated.

Always looking for stuff from the 40th Infantry Division (Korean War), the 7th Armored Division (WWII), USS Bunker Hill (WWII) and USS Mullany (WWII).

Semper Fi Marine. R.I.P.

A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands, love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper; his hands remember the rifle.
