LegGrunt71 Posted April 15, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 15, 2015 I guess this is ephemera but the Wo1812 category is a little thin, so here is a navy commission twice signed by James Madison. The only thing I know so far is that he was a purser on the Sloop Peacock.... feel free to add on to the history if you come across any... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Peacock_%281813%

Very few collectors have any idea how rare items from this period are, for that matter most americans today don't have any idea what day it is according to some of the interviews I have seen on "Waters World" or Leno. At any rate thanks for posting this, I doubt if we will see another document like this from the war of 1812 any time soon. Terry
LegGrunt71 Posted April 15, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted April 15, 2015 I'm glad you guys all like it. It's definitely something yo don't see too often. And thank you all who have researched it. Mr Bourne seems like he was a guy not to be messed with back in the day. He died 10 Nov 1823 Hmmm.... I'm looking at the NAVAL REGISTER FOR THE YEAR 1823 and he is listed as the purser on the Frigate Constellation. Interesting. Our Navy was pretty engaged in Anti-Piracy operations at that time. http://www.ibiblio.org/pha/USN/1823/NavReg1823.html
