37thguy Posted November 30, 2010 #26 Posted November 30, 2010 Very nice Mike. I'd try some clamps to get the shape right then put it in the bathroom while showers are taken. Leave it there for awhile and that should at least help? -Mark
sgtdorango Posted November 30, 2010 Author #27 Posted November 30, 2010 Hey!...its nice to see the old donut back top again!......Ive had this badboy a few years now and have a helmet/hat stand custom made by a member from the WAF forum, its kind of like an adjustable hat stretcher thing that goes inside the helmets dome area and it rest on top of a base like other helmet stands, it has straightened it out but i havent checked to see if it stays formed without the stretcher inside it, will have to take a few pics and show you guys what im talking about!....maybe i could try some of the methods described by 37th guy too.......mike
sgtdorango Posted December 1, 2010 Author #28 Posted December 1, 2010 Just fired off a few new pics of the ol' donut helmet and stand, its not perfect but much better than when i first got it!.....and a few close-ups of the black finish, someone mentioned the green and brown dyed helmets, mine is a green one that has been carefully painted black!.....not sure why but it been on there forever thats for sure!....thanks....mike
plick27 Posted December 1, 2010 #34 Posted December 1, 2010 mike, that custom form/shaper is damn near cool as that helmet. Rj
sgtdorango Posted December 1, 2010 Author #35 Posted December 1, 2010 Thanks Rj......yeah that guy really knows what he's doin with displays, he makes all different kinds, this one is aimed at peaked cap display to keep its form and not do any damage, unless you tighten it too much!.....thanks....mike
Longbranch Posted December 1, 2010 #36 Posted December 1, 2010 Which member at WAF makes these stands? I've got a slightly mis-shapen WWI Prussian pickelhaube needing some support.
sgtdorango Posted December 1, 2010 Author #37 Posted December 1, 2010 Hi, his name is Skipper Greenwade ....thanks.....mike
