It's a great thread Bob, but I still have yet to see that wwii style type 3 in use past WWII. Just saying I'd like to see real confirmation before the final judgement is passed. Paul

I concur. We have seen exceptions to just abut every rule in patch collecting. I am still skeptical of a post WWII Type 3. There is a subtle difference between blue twill and faded black. That might be creating some confusion here. That said, I did find post WWII Gemsco patches so......

I had a good friend who ran these by Bando and he said

Top one is WWII style Type 4 but due to the blue coloring on the edges, it was probably made in the 50s or early 60s. The other patch is not a parrot beak, it is a 'lumpy head' (probably made by the same company). I believe those date to the 1947-53 Camp Breckinridge era.

So I wouldn't call either of these WWII. MB
Kurt Keller was kind enough to respond and with the research they found (blue twill) it could pre date 50's maybe late 40's era and worn during the 50's as evidenced in their book.
So these are post WWII SSI , more likely from late 40's and issued into the 60's.

Yes, thank you for the information.

I'll have to continue my search for an authentic affordable Screaming Eagle for my collection.

I would like to also thank Phillock, Kurt and Mark and everyone else for helping with the patch I posted. That is what makes this the greatest US military forum.

Regards, Mitch

The compliments should go to the following:Mark Bando,The Kellers,Den Davies , Steve Johnson and Hans De Bree for bringing this discussion to the fore.

One point I would like to make is we collectors see a patch from a book, magazine article, internet and therefore because its printed has to be correct , therefore we need it. Time moves on,updated info, new reference' material comes out from passionate collectors who do it to help our hobby. This day in age we have at our luxury so much quality reference material it amazes me people still ask the same question but I guess that's our hobby.

For those who are interested in WWI,WWII -Cold War period , look at the following:

ASMIC-You can't get a more comprehensive and quality research and now its in colour-thanks DK.
