patches Posted May 6, 2015 Author Share #26 Posted May 6, 2015 Got a good close up of that APC with the BROAD camo pattern, it's the one that's at the far right of the bottom photo in post #14. The TAC marking I remember is an inter Platoon mark, Three Ticks for 3rd Squad.

Jeeps in the AK were hard top, made that way I believe, never did see up there the usual jeep with removable canvas tops, photo taken earlier in the month of May 82 around the end of Break Up. Looks like MERDC to me. TB 43-0147_Dec75 Abbreviation Color W White DS Desert sand S Sand EY Earth yellow ER Earth red FD Field drab EB Earth brown OD Olive drab LG Light green DG Dark green FG Forest green BL, Black Here are the possible combinations: last MERDC And finally, Winter Arctic The patterns use only four of these colors, for any geographic or climatic conditions. The only exception winter arctic, which is solid white. When changing from one geographic or climatic condition to another, the shape of the pattern itself does not change; only one or two of the colors that make up the pattern change. Figure 3-2 shows the combinations of colors to be used for various seasons and climatic regions. The first and second colors each cover about 45 per cent of the vehicle; the third color covers 5 per cent of the vehicle; the fourth color, normally black, covers the remaining 5 per cent. The location numbers 1, 2, and 3 identify the first three colors, and are used in the pattern designs to show what color goes where on the vehicle. patches Posted May 7, 2015 Author Share #29 Posted May 7, 2015 Tanks for the overview of the various MERDC patterns Flash. As an aside Flash, tomorrow I'm going to scan a Beret Flash in use on a beret for you of an early 70s fairly obscure jump unit, or at any rate, one where photos of it's members don't crop up all the time, and are rare. I'll post it somewhere where I see one of you topics, if not then in an other appropriate topic.

patches Posted June 15, 2015 Author Share #31 Posted June 15, 2015 Found one more foto I took that shows the White based MERDC Camo used in the Arctic. A Back Hoe of an Engineer unit, this was at Fort Greely in November 82, so I seem to remember that it was from a separate Engineer Company stationed at Greely itself rather then our own organic Engineer Company from the 172nd Inf Bde. The back hoes were out to help dig fighting positions, that how hard and frozen the ground was.
patches Posted November 18, 2015 Author Share #32 Posted November 18, 2015 Found another example of a USAEUR MASSTER Camo job to post, here they are M113s of the 1st Bn 16th Inf, 1st Inf Div (Mech) (Fwd), oh I guess foto taken around 1976-77. Hey note the German kid playing around there, he/she is putting something down his/her friend's pants, maybe a ice cube .

patches Posted November 21, 2015 Author Share #34 Posted November 21, 2015 A really excellent photo taken sometime in the mid 70s in West Germany of the solid OD of the period getting CAMOed up, White Star and all. Noch Einmal Der MASSTER Tarn. And on this site here we see a really fine 1/35 scale Tamiya M60A2 Tank done up in MASSTER, worth a look if your into models. http://www.network54.com/Forum/110741/thread/1233631968/M-60A2
patches Posted May 31, 2016 Author Share #35 Posted May 31, 2016 Yes, I'm gathering your right B, especially with your very correct view on interpretation. We did indeed repaint our in November 1980 for an AG inspection. A few guys from the company in fact, including one guy from my platoon, a buddy named Hess, got ARCOMs for volunteering and working 48 hours straight in finishing up where we left off all company tracks, recovery vehicles and soft skins. This is in fact Hess, the GI on the left, totally blew past me that he's in this foto I posted
patches Posted May 31, 2016 Author Share #36 Posted May 31, 2016 Here's a chronology of US Army advertising slogans... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slogans_of_the_United_States_Army This is an official bulletin. This from the September 1974 issue of SOLDIERS Magazine. NEW THEME "Join The People Who Joined The Army." Beginning in July this new theme replaced the old one, "Today's Army," in the Army's recruiting advertising program. The idea behind this year's theme is to build upon and maintain this continuity and to capitalize on the increasing quality, readiness and success of the volunteer Army. So what were seeing is the Join The People Who Joined The Army theme came into use July 1974 rather than the 1973 date given.
patches Posted April 8, 2017 Author Share #37 Posted April 8, 2017 Lets revive this one with these foto of a very early issue of the M113 Track of the 1st Battle Group 5th Cavalry 1st Cavalry Division South Korea 1960. Note very rare Camo job on this vehicle, Camo jobs being essentially non existent during this time frame, in some ways when we look at it, it does look a lot like the jobs that would be used starting in the mid 70s. Fotos come from member 36IDAlex, who posted this and more on his Grandfathers time in the Cav in 1959-60 in Vehicles Forum.
