Here's one of my newest lids. It is a front seam helmet refurbished in the early 60s with North and Judd airborne chinstraps, a 1965 dated airborne liner, a 1967 contract twill Mitchell cover, and a marked helmet band. The bug juice bottle was added by me.

came complete, nice early '63 dated cover, I cant see the markings inside the liner. Liner chin strap is on its last legs as well.

This one is named on the sweatband but i cant figure out the name. Sweatband shows honest wear on the liner suspension and so does the cover on the shell but could be a put together.

Another one that came together. '66 dated VN liner with all the paint flaking off, shell is a KW repaint? Was that the lighter Olive green they used?

Its pretty rusty inside which has leached onto the '69 dated cover which also shows honest wear of being on the shell for a while.

Shell is named inside to a Jimmy B. NAYLOR and also another name i cant make out, there is also some writing in red inside the shell.

that's one heck of a tube band

cheers Jake, Here's some more pics of it.

The band is pretty brittle in places and has been on the helmet for ages as you can see the colour difference between exposed and covered.

The cover has been cut to allow the chinstraps to go through and has been on there for ever as its fairly flat inside the helmet and the rust spots from the shell match up plus being slightly shiny in places form the silver paint from the liner.

The internal liner shows heaps of honest wear with grime and dirt still present, the nape buckles had been taped up at one point, probably to stop rattle.

I believe the shell is a heat stamped 111B. It also shows quite a lot of texture left so it may have been re-furbished for the KW.

Id love to take the cover off to see the rest of the shell but I feel its a bad idea.

Anton,

How was SSG Ruebel a WW2 vet when he was born in 1930? He would only be 15 when the war ended in 1945.

  • 2 weeks later...

Must be some more VN helmets out there worth posting, I know you've got some beauties Justin

Been working on that.

I pulled out some of my Marine helmets, so I'll start with some of those.

Here's my latest pick up. Nice honest set with WWII shell and Korean War liner with early Vietnam sweatband nape and liner strap.

This set is a Korean War shell with OD painted hardware straps, beautiful Korean War liner with green painted hardware, 1953 HBT nape and 1958 dated cotton sweatband, there's a faint mark where a liner strap once was but it's long gone. D.R.W is inked on the side of the helmet and "Dan" is starched faintly into the brim of the liner:

This example is just your run of the mill set. WWII front seam helmet shell with Korean War era OD painted hardware straps, early style liner, nice salty look:
