TFH Posted March 22, 2015 Share #10 Posted March 22, 2015 Hi guys, the link is to my website ! It is a really poor pic I have posted but in the "real life" the oval is very similar to the one on the top of this page ! I have no idea from its origin but I have few others identified I'll can show you. I have no idea how edit pic on this forum ! TFH
flashesandovals Posted March 22, 2015 Share #11 Posted March 22, 2015 The background color on both the oval you have and the one on the website you refer to is "CRIMSON" for Maintenance/Ordnance. The Artillery color is "SCARLET".

BROBS Posted March 22, 2015 Author Share #13 Posted March 22, 2015 I just compared it to a ww2 parachute artillery cap badge and it's the same shade scarlet.. ?
flashesandovals Posted March 22, 2015 Share #14 Posted March 22, 2015 If the oval you show here is the very sought after and expensive 464TH Parachute Artillery Battalion, I am sitting on a fortune here!
BROBS Posted March 22, 2015 Author Share #15 Posted March 22, 2015 not saying you aren't right.... just want to know how you could really tell the difference. The color looks no different than artillery red to me. I work in the garment industry and I can tell you that SCARLET is not always SCARLET. Buy 10 different types of twill from 10 different manufacturers in SCARLET and I'd be surprised if two of them were a perfect match. but, if it can't be confirmed as WW2 era (or possibly) it looks like I'll return the oval! TFH TFH, you don't have an identified oval like the one shown in the beginning of the thread do you? Only other units ovals? to upload a picture it must be under 250k and you use the "attach files" option at the bottom of the text reply box. -Brian

Let's wait for the experts on this forum to share their opinions, because that is what my statement is: just an opinion. I have been collecting flashes and ovals since 1976, and I do not own a single confirmed 464TH PFAB oval, so I cannot compare. I can however confirm that the ones on my picture are 782ND Maint ovals, and they look exactly like the one you have posted. Hope this helps. Pudgy (V) Posted March 22, 2015 Share #18 Posted March 22, 2015 Doesn't the shape, being that it looks like a race track, mean it is after WWII.
Bill K Posted April 6, 2015 Share #19 Posted April 6, 2015 It's definitely a 782nd Maintenance Battalion. Please see the attached pictures. As you can see the DI's on the shoulder are for the 82nd Support Group, which the 782nd was part of. Hope this helps. Bill
