skipproo1 Posted March 17, 2015 Share #1 Posted March 17, 2015 Greetings, I have a leather cartridge box with the brass lettering of R.L.G. On the inside of the flap it states: Richmond Light Guard 1881. The thing is I can't find anything about the Richmond Light Guard 1881 except for a short description during the Civil War. I don't think this cartridge box is Civil War. I can't find this cartridge box online or in any literature, period. Would any one have an idea were to place this cartridge box. retread12345 Posted December 17, 2015 Share #3 Posted December 17, 2015 It may be a CW era pouch that was modernized for fixed ammunition. Many examples exist revealing some imaginative results.
VMI88 Posted December 17, 2015 Share #4 Posted December 17, 2015 I think it's a non-regulation militia cartridge box, probably procured from one of the many military suppliers in the late 19th Century. It would have been used primarily for ceremonial purposes - the brass studs on the back would have buttoned into crossbelts made of white webbing.
