Michael. I'm not sure. I've had for a long time. Maybe an AF prototype?

The USAF introduced their Aide de Camp insignias mid 1950's. This silver item has the M22-shield and so it is made later than 1964/65, to late for a USAF prototype.

I know the Army had silver collar insignias and buttons for a short time replacing the gold colored items who oxidiced over the time and lost their gloss. But I have only seen silver color insignia for enlisted.

Captain John Breitling Coulter.

During World War I he served on the Western Front, initially as aide-de-camp to Major General William Abram Mann, then commander of the 42nd (Rainbow) Division.

In 1951 Coulter was promoted to lieutenant general as deputy commander of the Eighth Army, and was Eighth Army commander General Matthew Ridgway's liaison to the South Korean Army and South Korean President, Syngman Rhee. Coulter retired from the army, after 40 years service, in 1952.

Very nice. Did they ever make one for a 5 star?

For Army versions see #2 and #91 of this topic, for USAF version #76
