bellasilva Posted March 12, 2015 Share #1 Posted March 12, 2015 Looking at one of my WW1 canteens today, I remembered that it has what I believe to by a laundry mark scratched onto the back (R7054). I can't seem to remember if laundry marks were used going back to WW1. Perhaps you fine folks could enlighten me?
strawberry 9 Posted March 12, 2015 Share #2 Posted March 12, 2015 I'm not sure about WWI but could have been in use up to WWII and beyond. Definately is a laundry number though.
David D Posted March 12, 2015 Share #3 Posted March 12, 2015 Probably a WWII issue. They marked just about anything with those codes. I even have a set of DUIs with a code. Dave
bellasilva Posted March 12, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted March 12, 2015 Thanks gents. I have quite a few laundry marked items as well. Interesting about your DUIs though Dave. I just wish there was even an iota of a chance of IDing the owner but the best I'd be able to come up with is a whole bunch of names with no way of positively identifying whose it was
David D Posted March 12, 2015 Share #5 Posted March 12, 2015 Yeah, it is very hard with out anything to go on except the number. Dave
