Also just picked this up. Looks to me to be a New York National Guard haversack? Spanish American War era?

Do you have a picture of the back? A lot of these were altered during their long service life, and knowing what configuration it is currently in will help.

Span-Am until the unit was federalized. The 2nd NY became the 105th Field Artillery of the 27th ID for WWI. Looks like Battery D came out of the Bronx.

If you're from the Bronx, then you know the Kingsbridge Armory. It was the largest in the State (possibly country) for many years. The State built it for the N.Y. National Guard.
