RIA 1917 and usual inspector's marks. also has a '28' stamp. is that a company designation? the 57th FA was a celebrated arty. unit, it seems. anyhow hope you like the pix. INIMICUS Posted March 4, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted March 4, 2015 thanks loads! in person it looks like a cap letter 'P' so I'm thinking 'property of...' also: the leather thong is probably a replacement for the flat leather leg strap but it's been there for a VERY long time. was this deemed an optional piece i/c your q'master (or r.i.a.) ran out? ccyooper Posted March 4, 2015 Share #4 Posted March 4, 2015 The leather strap may have broken off as most have; however, if the officer/nco the pistol was assigned to thought it was a pain to deal with he could have just removed it. The lanyard is a replacement and they were a standard supply item or it could have been a boot lace, etc., just my opinion. I used to have several lanyards still in the little brown bags from WWII.
