ROLL ON 28th

attachicon.gifRoll On.jpg

The 110th Infantry, 28th Infantry Division performs at the Ulm Hauptbahnhof 1953. The Unit Crest as we see on the bass drum, I guess the Infantry Regimental Bands made a come back after WWII for however a time, there was a topic (can't find it of course ) that talks about their Wartime demise.

And here's a group foto of the band I just Found.

The 17th Infantry and the 1st Cavalry in Stained Glass in the Fort Leavenworth Kansas Chapel, though the 1st Cav's Coat of Arms is not used as the distinctive unit insignia like the 17th Inf''s is.

The first photo is the sign at the entrance of the 1st Battalion 505th Infantry's Firebase All American west of Saigon - Christmas 1968.

The second is the sign for the Company A 1/505th Infantry area at the battalion rear at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Vietnam - 1969.

The 2nd Cavalry's unit crest on a HQ Troop Scout Car in the 1930s. Think it was in the District of Columbia region back then right?

A self explanatory one as is usually the case, the higher unit will of course be the 40th Division, date will be sometime in 1967.

Of special note is the Battalion Commander, H R Temple (standing to the far left next to sign), he was NG Bureau Chief when I was getting out of the Army in 1982, foto was in the ARMY GREEN BOOK of 1982.

By the way, anyone know what the S R F stands for under the unit legend?

GOLDEN DRAGONS

post-34986-0-58438800-1468901327.jpg

A few troops of one of those provisional Aerial Gunner Platoons (more popularly known as door gunners) in early 1965 before leaving for South Vietnam, IE 1st Aerial Gunner Platoon 2nd, 3rd....4th etc etc.

Formally titled Machine Gun Platoons, these units was drawn by troops from the 25th Infantry Division Schofield Barracks Hawaii, for TDY in South Vietnam starting in early 1963. These troops in this photo were from I think the 1st Battalion of the 14th Infantry, and while on TDY still kept their unit identity even though they were not titled as such as a unit of the 14th Infantry and where officially detached from their parent organization, and as far as we know shouldn't even be wearing the 25th Divisions patch once in country, MACV I would think if any shoulder patch was worn.

Thanks tred, is there a page on this online you could link, would be interested to see just what ANG and or AR units were selected in the late-ish 60s for this mission.

OK, these photographs are of Fort Ord Murals. Two are painted on the 3rd Brigade HQs and one was painted on a wall inside one of the 3rd Battalion, 17th Infantry Barracks.

17th Infantry Crest and 21st Infantry Crest adorn the entrance. (Note Fort Ord was closed down in 1993 and this picture was taken in 2003)

3rd Brigade Strike Force! I painted this mural in 1987 and it stood tall until circa 2005 when it was painted over. Located at the 8th Street cutoff. (Picture taken in 1987)
