Just purchased this at the Allentown gun show. Painted fabric that measures 32" X 38", has a history of having been removed from a Douglas O-38 in 1933 at Middletown (Pa) Air Depot.

Beautiful Piece Daniel. You are correct, it is from a Douglas O-38 that was assigned to the 102nd Observation Squadron, based out of Miller Field in Staten Island. The squadron is still in existence as the 102nd Rescue Squadron using the same insignia, Flying HC-130P/N aircraft. I am a member of that unit and would interested to know if you would be willing to part with it.

Hey Patches, I checked those photos you directed me to. They are cool. Never saw those before. Our Public Affairs office has tons of old photos from the Miller Field days. I'm attaching some that show the O-38 with the insignia above placed on the fuselage. post-160726-0-78709900-1445664000.jpgpost-160726-0-41004300-1445664330.jpg

I know where that's taken, over the north end of the east river, the bridge is the Hell Gate Bridge, but I don't have to tell you that Bill, as your from here :D.

Patches, you are right. The photo has a little Queens, a little Randalls and Wards Island and a little Manhattan. In case youre interested, we are planning do have a Squadron Graphic done of the O-38 in 102nd OS colors in the near future. Here's a photo showing it in a high performance climb and another view in flight.
