Thanks for posting these Mark!! Great stuff!!

May I ask, how you came upon this? Is Mr. Freed still alive? I have questions about the aircraft markings for 27 JAN 1944 when they rescued USMC Lt. Lehnert of VMF-422. I'm working on a 1/72 Airfix PBY-5A which I plan to display as the aircraft they used [04413]

Thanks,

Eddie

Hi Eddie......I got the log off Ebay, not sure about the aircraft markings. I have another logbook to a pilot that flew two tours in VP-53 and was involved in the rescue of the USS Indianapolis on Aug.2 1945........Mark

Thanks Mark. I have always been fascinated with the USS Indianapolis. Sad mishap to say the least. I didn't know VP-53 was involved in the rescue!

Do you have any pics of your cousin? as part of this grouping was a serious of photographs while overseas, he might be in a snap shot or two.

I don't have any pics of him at the moment. Did find one of his twin brother Howard Burton Shively taken in 1958-59 while the Air Officer aboard the USS Leyte. If that helps.

Thanks for posting this; this is great stuff. I saw the Govro posting some time back when Dustin posted it. My father-in-law was a bombardier with VPB53.

.

Reply to logbook with what appears to be Lt(JG) Bremer. Depending on his initials?-there was a 1940 Naval Aviation Pilot (NAP) James Robert Bremer that joined Navy in 1936, NAP 1940, Commissioned Naval Aviator Ensign 1942. Retired as Commander 1958, Passed on March 1982. Lt(JG) about right for the time frame.
