mvmhm Posted February 13, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2015 The past couple of days have been crazy with uniforms. Two I received on loan and one I decided to purchase which turned out to be more than it seemed. First is a grouping on loan to use from a local collector friend. He found this group being split up in an estate sale and managed to get a decent portion of her things. This officer was the first black officer in the WAACs and was the highest ranking black female officer at war's end. You can Google her name and get tons of info so I won't repeat that here. Here's her picture as a Captain, and a link to a video of her and her unit: Mark sends
mvmhm Posted February 13, 2015 Author Share #2 Posted February 13, 2015 Her footlocker, with some of the contents. The shipping tags are still attached as well (I fiddled with the colors a bit to bring out the writing).
mvmhm Posted February 13, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted February 13, 2015 ...and the main uniform. He missed out on the metal insignias, so (with the owners permission) I added the correct Major's oak leafs and US pins. If anyone has a set of WAAC Heads that aren't terribly expensive, let me know! The top button is sewn directly to the jacket opening, with a snap sewn behind it for closure. This is a one of a kind group, to be sure - glad it stayed largely intact! cutiger83 Posted February 13, 2015 Share #4 Posted February 13, 2015 Very nice! I did a google search. At first I was confused because It showed a "Charity Adams Earley" but your footlocker says "Charity E Adams". Her maiden name was Charity Edna Adams so her initials went from C.E.A. to C.A.E. Anyway, great finds to a great soldier! Thanks for posting....Kat
